BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF ANTS
BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Due to the concerted efforts of the political and civic-minded leaders of the municipality of Alcantara and province of Romblon, the Alcantara National Trade School (ANTS) was conceived to provide technical-vocational education and training to develop middle-level manpower with entrepreneurial skills who will supply the labor demands not only of the province, but also, of the country through its curricular offerings.

To cope with the fast pace with which labor demands are going, the school has been trying to redirect and improve its programs. All curricular offerings are registered under the Unified TVET Program for Registration and Accreditation System (UTPRAS) and compliance audit is regularly requested.

The ANTS is located in the town of Alcantara one of the 9 municipalities of Tablas Island, the biggest among the islands of Romblon Province. To enable to attain its vision, the programs and projects being undertaken are geared toward the needs of its service areas coupled with the upgrading of facilities, provision of modern equipment and continuous upgrading of instructors and staff.

The ANTS was established by virtue of R.A. 4581 on February 17, 1970 as a vocational secondary school. It had a total land area of 9.6 hectares of land. With the Rationalizing Program in 2000, which provided for the phase out of the secondary program of all TESDA-administered schools, 2.7 hectares of land was transferred to DepEd.

The school started offering post-secondary courses in 1982 without any separate budget. It became a TESDA-administered school in 1995 after thorough evaluation of all its programs.

Part of the resources that were transferred to DepEd in line with the Rationalization Program of 2000 was the transfer of the 12 teaching staff, instructional materials, teaching aids and devices and a part of the school fund.

Today, the ANTS is a recognized tech-voc institution in Romblon where not only Romblomanons go to for technical education and training but also students from the neighboring provinces.
